
. A new reported out of South Korea claims that Apple is planning to use Liquidmetal alloys in the next-generation iPhone in place of the glass case on the current model. The new material will allow the device to be both thinner and lighter, and it will also be more resistant to impact damage. The Cupertino-based company acquired the rights to Liquidmetal Technologies' “amorphous metal alloys” in August 2010, and soon after was looking to hire engineers to work with the material.
