Japanese blog Macotakara was able to obtain one of the front panels, which measures 4.07-inches diagonally, and compared it with the current generation iPhone 4S. The Wall Street Journal and Reuters both reported earlier this month that Apple is planning to release a new iPhone this year with a display that measures at least 4 inches. A second image of the front panel and Macotakara's comparison video follows below.

That was fast: just a few days after the Galaxy S III reached buyers' eager hands, Samsung has posted the phone's source code. Its dutiful clinging to Google's Android guidelines opens the floodgates to custom ROMs as well as a better sense of what makes Samsung's Android 4.0 variant tick. As you'd anticipate, the code is only valid for the international GT-i9300 version. North American models, for the time being, are left out.

Ferrari holding online auction to benefit Italian earthquake victims

Italy is unfortunately no stranger to earthquakes, thus neither is the exotic automaker and racing team whose logo bears the country's flag. When disaster struck in Abruzzo, Ferrari launched a special-edition F430 to raise funds for its relief, and has been contributing to rebuilding the stricken region ever since. When the tsunami hit in Japan, Ferrari contributed millions to its aid. Now another earthquake has hit Italy – in the same part of the country that hosts Ferrari's headquarters in Maranello.

NTT DoCoMo's transparent OLED panel paves the way for new user interface

So the touchscreen display is a quantum leap for mobile devices when it comes to interacting with them, and NTT DoCoMo might have something different for the masses by introducing a new way one uses touchscreen devices, thanks to its transparent OLED panel that features touch sensors on both its front as well as back sides. This user interface was recently shown off at Wireless Japan 2012, where it began yesterday and will end this Friday. Some might draw comparisons with the PS Vita as well as the Explay Crystal, but DoCoMo's offering is able to differentiate itself thanks to its own quirkiness.

Second-gen IOIO in the works: embraces the wireless revolution, cuts cost

Ytai Ben-Tsvi's IOIO board is quite the hit with the Android-hacking DIY crowd. But, that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement on the $50 dev board. A second-gen version is in the works that adds the ability to connect to a computer as a USB device (not just as a host) or via Bluetooth, without the need for an intermediary controller like an Arduino. Perhaps most exciting for those interested in tinkering with DIY Android phone accessories, is the plan to cut the price of the new IOIO. How much less the next version will cost isn't clear yet, but even just $5 could make a major difference.

We saw this in the Lenovo S800, but the dual SIM card slots and Bluetooth 3.0 at least see the Crystal keep pace with more recent phones in its category.
