Michigan Passes Law To Protect Social Network Accounts Of Employees From Employers

Michigan Passes Law To Protect Social Network Accounts Of Employees From Employers

Earlier this year you might recall that there was an incident where a teacher's aide had been fired because she refused to hand over her Facebook login credentials to her employers. This lead to the state of Maryland banning employers from asking employees access to their social network accounts, and it looks like other states such as Delaware, Illinois and California have since followed suit.

Survey Shows That iPad Still Accounts For 87% Of Tablet Web Traffic

With the introduction of more affordable and powerful Google Nexus tablets, and tablets like Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, you would think that Apple's iPad presence on the web could be taking a hit and could see its numbers replaced by its competitors. Interestingly though according to analytics company, Chitika, it seems that the iPad is still dominating web traffic as far as tablet activity is concerned.

Goes Both Ways: Free-trade pact sees South Korean brands losing share at home

France has been vocal, but not alone, in noting the rise of the South Korean automakers in Europe. The signing of a free-trade pact in 2011 between South Korea and the EU, along with the especially value-conscious buyers in a crisis-stricken Europe, has seen market share increases measuring in the double digits for Hyundai and Kia – analysts expect 14-percent growth for the two in 2012.

FCC Eases Rules For Quicker In-Flight Internet Deployment

FCC Eases Rules For Quicker In-Flight Internet Deployment

As silly as it seems to use 20,000 pounds of potatoes to test wireless signals, there's absolutely a good reason behind it and the FCC announced today new rules that will help get more potatoes into the seats of decommissioned planes. Actually, today's news will help speed up the process of deploying Internet services onto aircraft by defining ESAA, or Earth Stations Aboard Aircraft which are used to provide in-flight Internet services, as a licensed application that would allow for airlines to test and receive approval as long as their system doesn't interfere with the aircraft's systems.

Study: Half of Americans Leaving Landlines

Study: Half of Americans Leaving Landlines

A recent study shows that almost half of Americans are living in households that use only or mostly mobile phones, while the remainder of the population is slow to convert. The findings came from the unlikeliest of sources: the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The institution conducted its National Health Interview Study throughout the year, interviewing people about everything from their state of health, insurance status, and even what phones they use in their households.

Monitor Your Bicycle Tire Pressure With This Sensor

Vehicles, especially cars that carry the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors are not exactly a rare sight in this day and age, and are pretty handy in letting you know just what kind of pressure your tires have left within while you drive. Definitely an ideal method to know whether your ride's about to experience a flat or not, that's for sure. Since it is smart, and safe, how about transferring this particular idea over to the world of cyclists.

Research Suggests Tablets More Popular Than E-Readers For E-Books

With the convenience and slightly lower prices of e-books, it only makes sense that more and more people are starting to turn away from the print medium to the digital medium, and according to a research by the folks at Pew Internet, that certainly seems to be the case. According to their report, Americans who read e-books rose from 16% in 2011 to 23% in 2012. Granted these aren't exactly huge jumps, but it's definitely progress. Interestingly their report has also suggested that the medium in which e-books are consumed, it would seem as though tablets have edged out e-readers like Amazon's Kindle or the Barnes & Noble Nook.

Just Mobile AluBase Macbook stand review

Many computer users these days have switched from using desktops to laptops.  Laptops are smaller, portable and provide the same functionality as desktops, but the problem with most laptops is that they have a smaller than desirable screen size.  I personally use both a 11″ MacBook Air and a 15″ Retina MacBook Pro.  But both those laptops are connected to a larger 24″ LCD display while the laptop remains closed and laying flat on my desk taking up space.  That's where Just Mobile's AluBase comes in.  The AluBase is a vertical stand for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Toyota proposes economic loss settlement worth up to $1.4 billion over unintended acceleration claims

Toyota announced a proposal today worth over a billion dollars to settle civil claims of economic loss related to alleged cases of sudden unintended acceleration in its vehicles from 2009-2010. Estimates place the cost of the settlement between $1.1 billion and $1.4 billion, which would, according to lawyers for the plaintiffs, make it the largest of its type in US history. US District Judge James Selna, who is presiding over the case in California, will review Toyota's settlement proposal as early as Friday.

Norman, OK Chevy dealer sells rather than selling out

Just like any other retail store, car dealerships are as much about branding as they are about selling products. So when Marc Heitz decided to design his Chevrolet franchise to resemble more of an outdoor enthusiast store rather than a conventional Chevy dealer, General Motors stepped in by stopping payment of quarterly dealer bonuses to the tune of $250,000 each. Now, Automotive News is reporting that rather than redesigning the store or losing an estimated $1 million per year in bonuses, Heitz has instead sold his franchise to a cross-town rival, David Stanley Chevrolet.

ZOMM Wireless Leash review

The ZOMM Wireless Leash (available in white, pink, or black) is a small key-fob sized Bluetooth hands-free speakerphone and alarm for any Bluetooth-enabled phone or, for that matter, any other BT device that can partner with it. It's touted as having three features: It sounds an alarm if it loses connection to its paired device, it is a hands-free Bluetooth speakerphone, and it's a “panic button” personal alarm and alert system. I'll look at all those functions and see how the Wireless Leash accomplishes them.

Hollywood Studios Reportedly Using BitTorrent To Pirate Movies

Hollywood Studios Reportedly Using BitTorrent To Pirate Movies

Movie studios and record labels have always lamented how online piracy is destroying the industry and as we have seen in the past, these media giants have gone to rather extreme measures to punish individuals who have allegedly downloaded copyrighted material illegally. Interestingly it seems that despite their stance on the whole issue of piracy, it would seem as though some Hollywood studios might be guilty of pirating movies themselves. The folks at TorrentFreak are reporting that they are using BitTorrent monitor Scaneye to track down IP addresses they believe are associated with Hollywood studios.

DIY Silent Computer Is Loved By Librarians

There is nothing quite like the sound of silence whenever you need some time for yourself, and the noisy world should be kept at bay. Going to a library would definitely help, but sometimes, the whirring of the unserviced ceiling fans as well as footsteps do tend to be a distraction. At home, you cannot really have pure silence unless all electrical items are turned off, and the computer is one of the main culprits. You know what they say, when you want to get something done, you've got to do it yourself.

Morgan confirms development of magnesium and aluminum chassis

In a brief chat with The Telegraph, managing director of Morgan, Charles Morgan, talked about how the tiny UK automaker will navigate the future. Morgan believes that as long as the company can find a way to exploit niche products that the big automakers can't or won't do, and if his firm can be a test bed for new technologies, then there's a way to retain both the Morgan spirit and independence. One of those upcoming technologies could be a new chassis material of magnesium and aluminum. The combination would allow Morgan to form its panels in the traditional way, but make them 20 percent lighter.

For a while now, the absolute and rather uncontested king of big luxury executive sedan sales worldwide has been the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Among the obvious competition, there has been an almost unspoken agreement that this is so, and that it shall remain so for our lifetimes. Clearly, this is regardless of the fact that the motoring press – i.e. we the so-called "experts" – have generally preferred this generation of Audi A8/S8, or the sporting BMW 7 Series in its various trims.
