Bret Michaels selling family truckster and more at Barrett-Jackson

As the Poison frontman is wont to sing, every rose has its thorn. Indeed, if the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Bret Michaels sold at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction was that flower, his latest consignments are as painful as pricked fingers. Michaels will be offering three vehicles at the sale, to be held January 15-22, 2012. The first (and the only marginally interesting one) is a 2004 Bentley Continental GT.

Over the past few weeks there have been quite a number of videos on YouTube showing animals playing games on tablets. A couple of days ago I wrote about orangutans using iPad tablets, and now we've got one more to add to the mix. Halfbrick, the developers of the game Fruit Ninja, recently posted up a Tweet linking to a video on YouTube showing a cat playing Fruit Ninja on the iPad. What's amazing about the video is that the cat plays the game with surprising accuracy.

In addition to creating mobile apps for smartphones to access Facebook Chat/Messages, it looks like the social network is targeting the desktop pc/laptop market as well. It has been reported that Facebook has been testing a Windows-based Facebook Messenger client that lets people chat with their friends on their computers without having to open up Facebook in a web browser. While a lot of 3rd party apps have been doing this for some time now, most of them are universal chat clients i.e. Digsby, Trillian, or IM clients that have Facebook support i.e.

Pantech Android tablet with LTE to be launched by AT&T next year

Pantech and AT&T have been good friends throughout the years, with the Korean company launching more than a dozen phones and smartphones via the second largest US mobile carrier. Now it looks like Pantech is readying its fist tablet for AT&T. According to JKN (website in Korean), the tablet has an 8 inch display and LTE connectivity, and should be out early next year – most probably with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

It's quite possible that the upcoming tablet is the Pantech P4100, approved by the FCC earlier this month (and sketched below).

While Nintendo seems pretty insistent at not porting their games over onto mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, it would appear as though they are considering an app store of their own for their upcoming Wii U which will be similar to that of iTunes or the Android Market. A recent rumor seems to suggest that non-game apps such as MLB.tv will be allowed to run on the regular TV interface, along with more tablet-like apps that will be optimized for the Wii U's 6.2" touchscreen display. CameraTrace Traces Stolen Cameras

CameraTrace might help you trace your camera. CameraTrace is a service that will help you track down your stolen or lost camera. It does this by scanning popular photo-sharing sites like Flickr and extracting camera serial numbers from the EXIF metadata contained in the photos.
Then, when your camera goes missing, you use CameraTrace to track down any photos taken with it. If these images also have GPS coordinates embedded in them, you're golden. If not, you'll need to do a little detective work to track things down.

Despite just launching publicly, CameraTrace has already had some success through its test and data-gathering stages.

HDD makers want long-term contracts with PC vendors

Due to the tight supply of hard drives stemming from the Thailand flooding back in October and November, hard drive manufacturers have reportedly asked PC vendors to sign a one-year contract at specified prices and volumes to ensure their required number of units. While hard drive manufacturers and component makers have largely resumed operations within the last month, they're not at optimum level, and the pace of recovery varies from factory to factory, making it hard to determine if the worst-case supply scenario is over.

A leaked roadmap offers new info on the release schedule for Windows Phone updates, which doesnÂ't quite line up with the info we heard about a week ago. Plus, it's a leaked schedule, so take it with a pinch of salt. The roadmap has the Tango update arriving in Q2 of 2012. The earlier info had Tango launching at CES (which is in January 2012), but maybe it will be unveiled at CES and the official rollout will begin in the April-June time period.

The tile under Tango says "Product with best prices", which is in line with what we've heard of the codenamed update, namely that it will enable cheaper WP7 phones.

To put that in context, Flurry reported that total Android and iOS activations on Christmas Day alone totaled 6.8 million. If we can accept a very high margin of error, and if we assume that the vast majority of Rubin's activations were on the 25th, then we might extrapolate a roughly even split between the two rival platforms.

How do you weigh yourself when there's no gravity keeping you down. Well, you can calculate your mass by sitting on an oscillating spring and comparing its standing frequency to your riding frequency (NASA's current method), or you could rig up a Kinect sensor to tell you when you're getting fat. Carmelo Velardo, a Eurocom computer scientist in Alphes-Maritimes, France, is developing the latter option.

The folks at Samsung first denied original Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S users a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich and, as you might imagine, it created quite the uproar. It couldn’t be a hardware performance issue due to the Nexus S getting Ice Cream Sandwich with near identical performance hardware. No, it was a space issue and you can probably guess the biggest culprit – TouchWiz. Thankfully, there’s still a chance (albeit not a very favorable one) that the devices will still be able to get Ice Cream Sandwich.
