IDC: iPhone wait cuts Apple's China phone share by nearly half, Lenovo seizes the opportunity

There's a lot of talk of a new iPhone coming soon, and the Chinese know it. IDC researchers estimate that Apple's share of smartphones in the country was sliced almost in half during the second quarter, to 10 percent, as expectations and rumors led the local population to wait for the big update. Better competition also played a part in denting iPhone shipments, although it's not Apple's chief rival Samsung who's responsible. Rather, it's China's own Lenovo that had the most impact.

JVC Kenwood HA WD50 Digital Wireless Headphones

When it comes to headphones, many of them are usually designed with portable audio devices in mind as well as for smartphones. There are only quite a few headphones nowadays that are designed for use on television and audio components at home. This might be an area that most headphone makers have left and JVC Kenwood would like to take advantage of. The company is launching the JVC Kenwood HA WD50 Digital Wireless Headphones for use on today's HDTV.

Verizon to launch the Samsung Galaxy Stellar 4G LTE soon

Verizon is getting ready to introduce a new Samsung Android handset, which is reportedly called Galaxy Stellar 4G LTE. We don't know what the handset looks like, but it should have a "compact design" that "fits comfortably in the hand." The Stellar will come with Amazon's AppStore pre-installed for some reason. It will cost $99.99 on contract (after a $50 mail-in rebate), or $499.99 without an agreement.

Fujitsu Stylistic Q702 arrives at the FCC

It is an unspoken rule for consumer electronics devices such as tablets and smartphones to go through the hallowed halls of the FCC before they are released to the masses, and here we are with a tablet not of the Android or iOS persuasion, but rather, one that will be powered by Microsoft's Windows platform. So far, it remains to be seen whether it is Windows 7 or Windows 8 that will see action in the Fujitsu Stylistic Q702, but what ever speculation or questions that you might have concerning this tablet would be answered as it launches to the mass market later this fall for $1,099 a pop.

While Qualcomm let the Snapdragon out of the bag a little early, LG's now caught up and launched a (Korean-only) teaser site for its next LTE smartphone. Promising a second-generation quad-core experience, the new flagship device will offer better power management and graphics performance thanks to the Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset beating away at its core. There's space on the site for another five videos, which should hopefully give us a little more detail than what we've been able to glean from FCC filings.

ZTE's alleged 'Blade III' smartphone gets photographed ahead of official announcement

Let's be honest, ZTE isn't exactly the best at keeping its upcoming devices secretly under wraps before eventually making them official - and, well, such is the case with the latest, unannounced Blade III. Finnish retailer Verkkokauppa's currently listing ZTE's purported Blade III as a 3.5-inch (800 x 480) slab that's sporting Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU (MSM7227A) and a 5-megapixel rear shooter. Still, as FoneArena points out, these alleged specs go against other rumors circulating around the web, which indicate the Blade III is boasting a 4-inch display rather than the smaller sized 3.5-incher listed on the Finnish site.

We'd been worrying that Pentax would be left out of the flurry of new cameras in the run-up to Photokina. With the new X-5, there's reason to relax. The new shooter sits at the higher end of the by-the-numbers superzoom crowd, centering most of its energy on a 26x, 22-580mm equivalent lens as well as a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that should keep the resulting 16-megapixel photos and 1080p videos relatively clean.

ZTE Windows Phone 8 devices only coming in late 2013?

While ZTE is among Microsoft's official partners which support Windows Phone 8, the company doesn't seem to be in a hurry when it comes to launching devices running the new WP platform. The Inquirer quotes Chris Edwards, European marketing and development director at ZTE, who says they'll only release Windows Phone 8 handsets "towards middle-late 2013." ZTE's Windows Phone 8 plans reportedly include affordable mid-end devices - as alternatives to smartphones made by "tier one" manufacturers (like Nokia and Samsung, which will both have WP8 products later this year). So, until next year, ZTE will be focusing on Android.
