HTC One Ditches Megapixels for Ultrapixels

HTC One Ditches Megapixels for Ultrapixels

HTC introduced this week its latest flagship smartphone. The 4.7-inch HTC One is different in many ways from the maker's previous models. For one, this slim silver and black 4G phone is encased entirely of aluminum. Its user interface looks similar to Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 Metro design, but the phone actually runs on Android 4.1.2. This new interface, which HTC affectionately calls “Blinkfeed,” highlights updates from different apps in a grid layout.

The HTC One also features an ultrapixel camera. Yes, we are no longer counting megapixels here, but a step higher than that.

Audi A3 E-Tron plug-in hybrid set to whiz into Geneva

The Audi A3 E-tron, which we drove in prototype form last year, is headed to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next month. The plug-in hybrid will feature a total of 204 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque from the combination of a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine and a 75-kW electric motor. That motor itself is positioned between the internal combustion engine and the machine's six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The setup is good enough to scoot the A3 E-tron to 62 miles per hour in 7.6 seconds and crank out a top speed of 138 mph.

PS4 Will Allow Used Games To Be Playable

PS4 Will Allow Used Games To Be Playable

A rumor spread like wildfire earlier this month regarding the next-generation Xbox requiring an Internet connection at all times, which would serve as a way to stop used games from being played. Because of that, many potential next-generation console consumers have been wondering if the next Xbox or PlayStation will in fact block used games from being played. Last night, the PlayStation 4 was officially announced by Sony, which not only means the next generation of consoles will soon be upon us by holiday 2013, but it also means we could finally put the blocking of used games rumor to bed now that one of the consoles has been announced.

Website Used To Hack Apple And Facebook Found

Yesterday we reported that Apple has been the target of Hackers. Apple claimed that the source of the hack was the same as used to hack Facebook. The malware used in both these cases came from a popular forum of iPhone developers called iPhoneDevSDK. Ian Sefferman, co-founder of the forum explained how his site was used to send out malware" What we've learned is that it appears a single administrator account was compromised. The hackers used this account to modify our theme and inject JavaScript into our site. That JavaScript appears to have used a sophisticated, previously unknown exploit to hack into certain user's computers.

UK Bugatti saleswoman sells nearly one Veyron per month

UK Bugatti saleswoman sells nearly one Veyron per month

Selling cars is difficult enough without your company's only product being a $2.2 million supercar, but that doesn't seem to have slowed down Anita Krizsan. As a sales representative for Bugatti, Krizsan sold 11 Veyron models to clients around the world last year, and her efforts have earned her the nickname "The $15 million woman." For comparison's sake, most of the company's salesmen are happy to move three of the ultra cars in a calendar year, and Krizsan's exploits mean she's the worldwide Bugatti sales leader. But getting there has been plenty of work.

Subaru mulling three-row utility, upscale versions of existing models

Subaru was one of few automakers whose sales actually picked up during the recent recession. But now that auto sales are back on track (and expected to hit pre-recession numbers this year), Subaru is trying to come up with new products to fill voids in its current lineup. Wards Auto had a chance to talk to Subaru's director-product manager Ken Lin, who indicated that the automaker is planning to introduce new models this year that will help it attract new buyers without alienating current ones. The biggest void, of course, is a competitive three-row crossover, a role the Tribeca does not fill in one a very popular segment.

A Blue-Blooded Valentine. I need you to understand what it's like to drive this car. I'm not talking about your ability to comprehend the words on this page or process the figures that surround the 2014 Porsche Cayman S, but rather what it feels like to take control of a car conceived, designed, engineered and manufactured to set your prefrontal cortex alight with all the glee a Zippo typically reserves for pine needles marinated in jet fuel. From the instant you put your tail in the driver's seat, the Cayman sets about impregnating your veins with a full and varied spectrum of ludicrous emotion.

Toshiba - Prototype of nuclear decontamination robot (from The Japan Times)

In Japan, since the nuclear disaster that began in 2011, innovation and development has been put into the cleanup effort. Here is a video from Japan Times that shows a prototype of a decontamination robot developed by Toshiba Corporation. This could be used to take the place of humans risking their health in dangerously contaminated areas.
It is guided remotely through computers and video game controllers and uses dry ice and a vacuuming process to remove radioactive material.

This type of technology could be very effective in the current disaster and potential future situations.

Analyst: Nokia Tablet Won't Debut At MWC 2013

A few days ago, we saw a possible leak of a new Nokia tablet at an event the company held in Pakistan which we expected would be revealed at MWC, if such a device even exists. According to market research firm Strategy Anallytics, we could be wrong in thinking MWC would be the place for Nokia to debut their tablet. In a blog post published earlier today, Strategy Analytics believes Nokia will only focus on its line of Lumia smartphones at this year's MWC as channel checks made by its Tablet & Touchscreen Strategies service believes Nokia's strategy at the show will be “smartphone first.”.

Each year, J.D. Power and Associates surveys original owners of three-year-old vehicles to find out what kinds of problems they have had experienced over the last 12 months, and then it uses this data to create its annual Vehicle Dependability Study. This means that the models in the 2013 study are 2010 model year vehicles, and J.D. Power rates each make as well as the top individual models based on how many problems were experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).

BMW 2 Series Convertible goes for a drive in the cold

The BMW 2 Series is the car that will eventually replace the 1 Series here in the United States (remember: the 1 Series moniker will live on to describe the hatchback models in other markets), and while we've seen the new coupe out on the prowl, we're now seeing the droptop version out on the road. We don't have much information about the new 2er models, only that they are expected to bow sometime in 2014. Dimensionally, the new 2 Series convertible looks very similar in size to its outgoing 1 Series kin, with things like the roofline and roof shape looking nearly identical.

Toyota GT86 engineer Tada recounts how sports car came to be

Because the Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ coupes are now a reality, it's almost hard to imagine the struggle that had to happen within the large, conservative corporate structures at both automakers for the joint project to even get off of the ground. Speaking to those struggles on Toyota UK's Toyota Blog, GT86 Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada enlightens us with a recap of the sports car's earliest origins. For Tada, the first stages of the project must have seemed almost as dreamlike as the final product is to drive.

Smart is continuing to test its upcoming ForFour (seen above) model and the replacement for the ForTwo (pictured at the right), this time doing some cold-weather work in Sweden. As we've reported previously, the ForFour is an all-new vehicle, and it will have more in common with the smaller ForTwo than the short-lived last model that was co-developed with Mitsubishi. This ForFour is instead a collaborative project with Renault, and could spawn what will ultimately become the new Renault Twingo.

Drivers from 12 countries, trophy truck champions who've come from Paris-Dakar and the Baja 1000, guys who had spent big-money sums like $250,000 on their rigs were lined up to win, or just try and make it back before the 14-hour cutoff time.
