Intel's Xolo X900 by Lava hands-on

Intel's Medfield-based Android smartphones have been buzzed about for sometime now, but until this past CES, we hadn't actually seen one of these unicorns en vivo. No longer, as the chip manufacturer outed a trio of those very handsets today at its MWC event. Of particular note is the Xolo by Lava, a 4.03-inch, single-core unit running a mostly stock build of Gingerbread and destined for the Indian market. We spent time getting to know the device, so follow on past the break as we parse through its finer qualities.

Jay Leno Camaro finally finds its way home

Back in 2009, General Motors whipped up a special-edition Chevrolet Camaro for Jay Leno. With a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine, unique aerodynamic and cooling work, Brembo brakes on all four corners and a Pedders coil-over suspension kit, the vehicle was designed to be a modern interpretation of the old Z28. Small aesthetic tweaks abound as well, from a revised front fascia to functional brake duct inlets on the rear quarters and unique exhaust outlets. GM even slathered the vehicle in the same paint as the original Camaro Concept.

MWC 2012: Acer Liquid Glow E330 with Android 4.0 ICS hands-on

Officially introduced last week, the Acer Liquid Glow E330 was sitting quietly at Acer's booth inside the Android Stand at MWC 2012, so we had to check it out. Although the Liquid Glow runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (with Acer's own UI on top), it's not a high-end device, but a mid-end one. Its features include a 3.7 inch WVGA display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.5mm headset jack, 1GHz single-core processor, 1GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, 5MP rear camera with flash, and a 2GB memory card pre-installed.
Overall, the Liquid Glow is a pretty nice smartphone for its category.

Jaguar XFR designer makes a music video and commercial at the same time

Wayne Burgess is the chap on the right wearing the Gibson shirt, in his guise as lead guitarist for the band Scattering Ashes. Before – and we're presuming after as well – his shifts on the six-strings he's also a Jaguar designer and was the lead on the 2012 XF. And that's how Burgess and mates ended up taking Jag b-roll and cutting it for a vid to their song "Cut Me Down." It's a twist on the decade-old Jag ad campaign "Everyone dreams of becoming a rock star.

Quad-core ZTE Era with Android 4.0 and cheap ZTE Orbit with WP Tango announced, we go hands-on

Not content with the prospect of its fellow Chinese company Huawei stealing the show at MWC, ZTE has also announced a couple of interesting smartphones today. The quad-core ZTE Era runs Android, and the ZTE Orbit is a Windows Phone, one of the first to run Microsoft's upcoming Tango release of its mobile operating system. The ZTE Era comes packing Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 processor, and it's the first smartphone to also have Nvidia's brand new Icera 450 HSPA+ modem, which signifies Nvidia's transformation into a mobile SoC (System-on-a-Chip) maker.

ASUS Padfone formally unveiled: 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon S4 CPU, ICS, HSPA+, coming in April

Just like it said it would, ASUS has formally unveiled its versatile, form-changing Padfone at Mobile World Congress. There are two stories here, and they're both quite compelling, frankly. On the one hand, you've got yet another high-end device, with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, Snapdragon's new dual-core S4 chip, an Adreno 225 GPU, Ice Cream Sandwich and an 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and f/2.2, autofocusing lens. (The front camera records at VGA resolution.) Other specs include 16 to 64GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD), Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, GPS, A-GPS, a gyroscope, 1,520mAh battery and a compass.

Nokia is now the largest Windows Phone maker in the world

While we can't really say that we're surprised, Nokia has snagged the top spot for Windows Phone devices. Strategy Analytics reports that the Finnish smartphone maker now sits atop the global charts for the Microsoft mobile OS after being in the game for just one quarter. Nokia overtook HTC and Samsung to claim a 33% market share with 0.9 million out of the 2.7 million units shipped in Q4.
